Others need a partner who can take an incomplete design and prepare it for CNC machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, electronics assembly, or serial production.

The first sourcing decision is whether the supplier is a design consultancy, a production-linked engineering office, or a factory with internal engineering support. Consultancy partners are useful for early development; production-linked teams are often better when the goal is to move quickly into manufacturable parts.
